What's in Season // September

Before I went to the farmers market on Saturday, cooking was feeling like a chore, we hadn't been eating much fresh produce, and I was completely uninspired in the kitchen. I honestly drove to the market just to take note of what was being sold so I could update my list for September. Maybe I would buy some apples, but I was kind of tired of them so maybe not. I'm a little up and down, I know.

But hello, vibrant September! Why did I think it would only be pumpkins and apples growing? September has so much to offer! Talk about eating the rainbow. These vegetables are so alive, too. There's literally something different about holding, preparing, tasting farm-fresh vegetables. I feel like I came home pumped full of life again, ready to take on another day.

Here's what's at my market in late September:

Asian pears
APPLES, all kinds
Zucchini
Summer squash
Pumpkins
Eggplant
TOMATOES (grape, heirloom, slicer)
Cucumbers
PEPPERS, all kinds

Fennel
Leeks
Lemongrass
Onions
Garlic
Basil
Chives
HONEY (beeswax, honeycomb)

Okra
Carrots
Potatoes
Green beans
Corn, last of the season
Mushrooms, all kinds

Arugula
Kale
Mixed lettuce
Swiss chard
Cabbage
